THREE GROUND CUCKOO-SHRIKES AT JAROWAIR
Three Ground Cuckoo-Shrikes
(Coracina maxima) were witnessed for the first time at Jarowair mid afternoon. A trio of long-tailed birds were seen grazing in two different locations at our property, I didn't want to get too close and scare them away, so I watched from some distance, enjoying hearing their delicate calls to each other, before one took off with a twig in it's mouth to a large ironbark tree, the other two soon followed, and after a few minutes, proceeded to head off to the neighbors property.
This Christmas sighting is a new record for our property, and one for myself, however
Brendon has seen them before some years ago in Toowoomba. It is interesting to note that these birds were seen by Birdlife Southern Qld during their trip to our region some months ago, in a paddock not too far from our property.
