FEMALE BLUE-SPOTTED HAWKER DRAGONFLY
I photographed this large dragonfly at our patch, resting on the trunk of a small tree overhanging a small waterhole. I am new at learning to idenfity them and so had to call in advice from the experts on this one. Thanks to Rob Ashdown & Rod Hobson for identifying it as a female Blue-spotted Hawker Dragonfly (Adversaeschna brevistyla), that was getting on in age and a little worse for wear.
