Eastern Grey Kangaroo Family of Four

Wild Eastern Grey Kangaroo Family of Four at Jarowair

Eastern Grey Kangaroo Family of Four at Jarowair 28th July 2018.  Look closely to spot the fourth member of the family!

Mr Eastern Grey always has an eye on his girl, protecting her from any harm or annoying photographers!

These photos of wild Eastern Grey Kangaroo's (Macropus giganteus) were taken in July 2018, and I am only getting around to posting them 12 months later after seeing the family of four again last week (with the pouch baby now an at foot joey).  I hope to get an updated photo of the four of them.

The "Daddy Kangaroo" is easily recognizable with his torn ear.  He is a wonderful protector of his family and as I approached our property the other day, I watched as they were feeding on the edge of the road, he would make sure the whole family crossed under our neighbours fence safely and into their paddock before he would attempt to cross himself.   As seen in these photos he also hangs back as the family drinks from the water troughs in our front yard, and he waits until they are done until he himself goes for a drink.

Things have declined since these photos were taken with the drought in South-East Queensland - the long dry grass seen here is now just bare dirt.  Kangaroos and Wallabies are feeding on our back lawn (or weeds) and trying to find any little bit of green they can.

Wildlife rescues have increased immensely with the road traumas of macropods looking for green pick on the side of the road.

Praying for rain!
