RUFOUS BETTONG PAIR UP CLOSE
Last night Brendon and I had the most surreal encounter with a pair of Rufous Bettong's at our place. We were watching one about 10 metres away, which hopped off towards another in the distance. I decided to record them on my phone and what transpired was quite amazing. Both of the bettongs hopped right up to us, about 1m in front, proceeded to grunt away at each other and stop for a while, before hopping off again. They were not phased by our presence or torches at all. They are such beautiful creatures and we feel so blessed to see them here at our wildlife patch.

ReplyDeleteThanks so much - it was a truly un-expected experience, such cute little creatures.
DeleteNice! Glad to see we still have some marsupials surviving the feral threats in our bushland.
ReplyDeleteThanks John, there was a period of over 5 years when we didn't see any Rufous Bettongs here, we are so pleased they have returned, despite the treat of wild dogs in the area. They are just beautiful.
